What Calif residency is required to apply for this housing? I now live outside Calif and want to find affordable housing in the desert area, as I have family in Palm Springs. Is this managed or affiliated with HUD?
Lucy…In order to qualify for most low income apartments in Riverside County an applicant need not be a current Riverside County resident but must be a US citizen. The income threshold is $14,100.00 a year to qualify for an apartment rental rate of 30% of your monthly income.
I say “most”, because there are certain city subsidized complexes in Rancho Mirage that require city residency in order to qualify.
Most subsidized apartments in the Coachella Valley have wait lists. I can forward a list sorted by city that will contain contact information for you. The best approach is to decide where you want to live and call each complex to be put on the call list.
